Being the Gold at the End of the Rainbow: In Conversation with mazie

[UNPUBLISHED:] What does it feel like to release your debut EP, the rainbow cassette?

[MAZIE:] It feels AMAZING!! Truly the most incredible feeling — I’ve been sitting on this music for a minute now so it’s been so cathartic releasing it into the world!

[UNPUBLISHED:] What are you most excited about when it comes to your new EP?

[MAZIE:] I think I’m the most excited about how cohesive it feels to me. I put in so much time making sure that the music videos and the music itself really embodies the mazie universe I’m trying to build — and listening through the whole project and watching the videos all together I really feel like I accomplished that.

[UNPUBLISHED:] Do you have a favorite song from the new EP?

[MAZIE:] I think my fav has to be either dumb dumb or i think i wanna alone - it honestly changes by the week but those are my current faves!

[UNPUBLISHED:] What was the process of writing your EP?

[MAZIE:] I’m so lucky to have such an amazing creative partner Elie Rizk to write the EP with. Elie and I collaborate on every song and typically write the whole thing in a day once the production is figured out. A concept for a song typically starts from a conversation Elie and I are having when I get to the studio and then it all spirals from there.

[UNPUBLISHED:] Your single dumb dumb was written the day after the capitol insurrection. How were you feeling while writing the song and what was the message you wanted to convey?

[MAZIE:] I don’t even know how to pinpoint exactly how I was feeling that day — there were so many emotions and thoughts and I think we channeled that chaoticness and absurdity of the situation into the song.

[UNPUBLISHED:] How do you want people to feel while listening to your music?

[MAZIE:] I just want them to feel really good! I had so much fun making this project and I truly love all the songs on there — I hope it allows people to explore a side to pop music that they maybe haven’t heard before but most importantly have fun listening to it.

[UNPUBLISHED:] What is the story behind your stage name?

[MAZIE:] So my birth name — Grace Christian — is not really artist friendly. When I was in high school I knew I wanted to go by a different name for my music so I chose “mazie” after my great grandmother Maisie.

[UNPUBLISHED:] Who are your musical inspirations?

[MAZIE:] The Beatles! And most recently a ton of female singer songwriters from the 60s/70s like Janis Joplin, Carol King, and Joni Mitchell!

[UNPUBLISHED:] Who is your dream collaboration?

[MAZIE:] Harry Styles!!! I was a 1D stan in middle school and my love for Harry has only grown as I get older so it would be truly mind blowing if I got to make something with him.
