How You Love According to Astrology

Lili's Article Picture October.jpg

Love is quite possibly the most complex yet most craved feeling in human existence. Intimacy, love, and monogamy are aspects that differentiate humans from other animals. We spend a good chunk of our lives going through partner after partner, looking for “the one”. In regards to things like soulmates, or “the one”, I personally believe that humans are more complex. There is no one person, but rather multiple people that are the same amount of perfect for us, just in different ways. In astrology, every single one of your placements is important in determining compatibility. I tend to hear people saying things like “Well you and ___ won’t work because you’re a Taurus and they’re an Aquarius” and while I don’t think that’s inherently wrong, it is way more complex. I feel I more often bring up the ways mainstream media is misinterpreting astrology in my articles, but I bring it up frequently because I believe it’s necessary to address issues that arise in how the media looks at astrology. There is no definitive way to look at astrology. I bring this up yet again because when delving into only one aspect of the birth chart it’s always a good idea to keep this concept in mind.

Let’s discuss the planet Venus. Second closest to the Sun, and our next-door neighbor here on Earth, the planet Venus represents beauty. Venus was named after the Roman goddess of love, and in astrology, is known to represent romantic connection and love (while the planet Mars represents more physical connection). Signs Taurus and Libra are ruled by the planet Venus. Beyond love, Venus also rules personal tastes, aesthetics, and values. Thus, we tend to look to our Venus placements to determine what principles we hold in relationships. Although it is only one piece of the puzzle that is compatibility, looking at how our placements values coincide with our partners’ (or potential partner) Venus placement can be beneficial in determining compatibility. It is important to keep in mind that you should only take what resonates, and if you don’t relate to the information I’ve written about your Venus sign, it’s possible that conflicting placements in your chart may be the reason. Take this as soft, guided insight.

Aries in Venus are attracted to the passion and excitement of love. They value the chase and fun in new relationships. Aries Venuses crave that buring, quick-paced, spirited kind of connection. People with an Aries Venus tend to be more candid and bold with romantic interests, and they aren’t afraid to be valiant. They know what they want, but they can be frustrating to deal with due to their impulsive nature. They flirt with everyone and fall in love very quickly; however, they can fall out of love as quickly. They can be a little too fervent sometimes, and if their partner can’t keep up, an Aries Venus won’t have a hard time moving on. They’re blunt and honest with their views and Due to the obviously fiery nature of an Aries Venus, other Fire Venuses such as Leo or Sag Venus would pair well with this upbeat and spastic placement. Someone who is independent rather than dependent bodes well with an Aries Venus: a Gemini or Aquarius Venus, even a fellow Aries Venus! On the other side of a spectrum, a dependent and nurturing Cancer or Pisces Venus may be a challenging match for Aries Venus, though never impossible!

Having your Venus in Taurus is similar to having your moon in Cancer: Taurus is ruled by Venus. These placements are secure in the way they love and the values they hold. They seek comfort and coziness. Venus Taurus individuals can be resistant to quick changes and complex situations within relationships. They like things to be kept simple, yet still enchanting and elegant. Taurus Venuses like to move at their own pace when it comes to partnership and they have an alluring energy to them. As an earth sign, Taurus Venus likes a relationship that is secure, stable, and grounded. They don’t mess around with relationships, and have a romantic yet serious approach. They seek as well as offer a sense of security and loyalty. Taurus Venuses however can be a little stubborn and picky when it comes to finding a partner. A loyal Leo Venus would be a good pairing to keep Taurus Venus interested yet still offer a sense of stability. A more stable pairing for Taurus Venus would be Capricorn or Libra Venus. Both Taurus and Capricorn are Earth signs, and both Taurus and Libra are ruled by Venus which creates preconceived common ground between the two.

Gemini in Venus individuals are flighty and flirty when it comes to romance. They love stimulating conversation, but don’t often like being tied down. Like air, Gemini Venuses are flowy and constantly adapting. They love the upbeat, entertaining and jovial aspects of relationships. They’re great listeners and even better conversationalists, but have a harder time with more serious discussions. Unfortunately, they can come off somewhat dispassionate because of how quickly they go through partners. However, this is simply their way of enjoying life and it’s varieties. Gemini Venuses need to be almost constantly stimulated: they have a craving for upbeat and fun adventures that energize their knowledge, like an escape room. Because of this desire for a more buoyant and fun partnership, a Gemini Venus might pair well with a Sag Venus or even another Gemini Venus. If a Gemini Venus was looking for more of a challenge, the loving detail-oriented Libra or Cancer Venus would be interesting pairs.

Cancers in Venus are the nurturing, caring, and comforting Venus sign. They are sensitive and sentimental, and they pay attention to detail. They show their love by caring for their partner, and they want that reciprocated. Cancer in Venus people yearn for security in partnerships. While Gemini Venus has a hard time with deeper conversations, Cancer Venus wants the opposite: a more complex conversation. When a Cancer Venus is upset, they’re upset. Cancer Venus is often worried about being left behind, so they’ll retreat, which can be difficult to deal with, especially when it’s not a quite rational reaction. It can be difficult to love a Cancer Venus because they need constant reassurance, but their supportive and loving nature makes it worth it. They have a delicate and beautiful way of showing love for their partner, and enjoy more the more sentimental and romantic side of things. Their need for validation but also someone to care for makes fellow water Venuses: Scorpio and Pisces Venus (a good pair, though a more pragmatic Capricorn Venus would also bode well with Cancer Venus). A challenge for Cancer Venus would be the less emotional, more adventurous Aquarius and Gemini Venus.

Leo is a prideful sign, which is oftentimes misconstrued and taken as egotistical. Leo Venuses are proud lovers, and will boast about their partners. They can be testing, and crave validation. Leo Venuses expect a lot, but they also give a lot in return. They love to spoil and care for their partner. Leo Venuses however, have high expectations which can make it difficult to please them. They simply love love and want a movie-like romance, which can lead to becoming idealistic and picky. Because they have an idealized version of love, they jump through partners quickly. They do, however, have really big hearts and just need extra attention and validation from their loved ones. A Cancer Venus would be a good pair for Leo Venus because Cancer Venus is looking for someone to shower with love and care for, though Leo Venus should make sure to reciprocate. An Aries Venus would also pair well with Leo Venus to tune into the more fiery and passionate sides of Leo.

The more analytical Virgo Venus is deep down a sensitive and caring partner, with a practical yet emotional approach to relationships. Virgos Venuses are the long term relationship type. They don’t often lean towards short flings. Like all earth signs they prefer security over uncertainty, and will tend to stick with what they know and what they’re comfortable with. They are hesitant to big or drastic changes, and not too quick to open up. While Leo Venuses may spoil and shower their partners, Virgo Venuses will pay attention to the little things, quality to them is far more important than quantity. Understanding how a Virgo Venus feels about you, they are very reserved, but they are nitpicky and extremely particular, so when they like someone, they like them. A Virgo Venus needs a partner that is understanding of their potential trust issues and guarded heart: a Taurus or Pisces Venus would match well.

Like Taurus Venus, Libra is at home in Venus, meaning this placement is more than harmonious. Libra Venuses look for beauty and balance in relationships. They are emotional, sensual, devoted lovers who go through life with poise and elegance -- it’s hard not to love a Libra Venus. Flirting, chatting, and socializing in general is right in a Libra Venuses ballpark, and they have a tendency to flirt without realizing. They love to dazzle and excite their partners and will do almost anything to maintain a relationship. Libra Venuses are people pleasers and they dedicate themselves to their partners almost to a fault. Libra Venuses will make so many compromises and sacrifices so that their partner will be happy that they tend to forget about themselves, and unfortunately this can often put them in a position where they will be taken for granted. All a Libra Venus wants is to love and be loved back, to be treated fairly, and to be listened to. They seek consonance in a partner, but also excitement and adventure. Having a partner is as important to a Libra Venus as cars are to humans -- they don’t need them to survive but it sure makes life a lot better. Good pairings for a Libra Venus would be the lively Gemini or Sagittarius Venus. Aquarius Venus has a different perspective on relationships, but if a Libra Venus could get past this an Aqua Venus would be a nice match.

Truth be told, having your Venus in Scorpio can be one of the most difficult placements because of how emotionally intense Scorpio is. What this means for a Scorpio Venus in relationships is that they probably tend to be all or nothing with love. It can be very hard to understand a Scorpio Venus. They’ll always make it known that they care, but their actions can be hard to interpret. Once you understand how a Scorpio Venus works however, they can be the most loving and caring partner. Having Scorpio rule the planet of love and beauty can make anyone with this placement experience issues with trust, paranoia and potentially possessive behavior surrounding relationships. When a Scorpio Venus cares they will dedicate their time to loving you and showing it. They may come off cold in public or around others, but when you’re alone with a Scorpio Venus that loves you it can feel like there’s no one else in the world. Because of the extremities of a Scorpio Venus they need a partner who will be as committed as they are. A fellow Scorpio Venus would be perfect, as long as they kept one another in check and made sure not to sink into the relationship. A Cancer Venus would also pair well-- Scorpio Venuses desire to be cared for and to express their adoration for their partner is fulfilled by a Cancer Venus. Leo and Aries Venuses are challenging but exciting pairs for Scorpio venus. Because Aries Venus has such a different perspective on  emotions, and because Leo Venus can sometimes be a tad self-indulgent, communication would be a key factor in making these relationships work harmoniously.

Sagittarius Venus individuals value fun and charismatic relationships. They like being spontaneous and adventurous with their love choices. A Sag Venus wants a partner they can complete their bucket list with and someone who respects their outlooks on life and their beliefs. They additionally need space to move and jump around in relationships. I don’t mean literally jump, but more so space to breathe their own air. While they are refreshing and lively lovers, they can come off quite judgmental sometimes. Sag Venuses also may have a hard time apologizing, not because they are egotistical, but because they hate the idea of hurting someone they love. Water Venuses might be hard pairs for a Sag Venus because Sag Venus does not express romantic love in a conventional way, which might be confusing to the emotional and romantic Water sign. However, an Aquarius, Aries, or Gemini Venus would pair quite well with a Sag Venus due to the similar energies and means of expressing affection.

Capricorns in Venus are more often than not misunderstood in the way they love. They aren’t sappy or uber-romantic kinds of people. They express that they care about someone by trying to appear organized and put together. It can almost appear that they want to be respected more than loved. On a surface level Capricorn Venuses rarely outwardly express romantic interest in a conventional way, they appear to be cool, calm and collected. Truth be told, even though they aren’t technically softhearted, they care and love just as much as a Cancer Venus. On the inside, Capricorn Venuses are big goofballs. Privacy is important to Capricorn, and they aren’t too keen on public displays of affection. They may have a hard time with intimacy because they have an overall fear of betrayal but once you get a Capricorn Venus to let loose they have potential to be the most fun-loving partners. Control is also important to Capricorn Venuses, and they can become frustrated if they aren’t allowed control over a situation which in turn can be aggravating to deal with. In reality, they don’t like being outwardly vulnerable, they can even be shy when it comes to love and they see this as a weakness they need to hide. Pisces or Cancer Venus would be a wonderful pair to bring out the more soft, vulnerable sides of Capricorn Venus. A loud, outwardly emotional Leo or Libra Venus however would be difficult for a Cap Venus.

Like Scorpio Venus, Venus in Aquarius can be a really difficult placement. Aquarians are not generally a one-on-one kind of sign, they are sociable, they love meeting people and making friends, and not being a one-on-one kind of person can be difficult in monogamous relationships. Aquarius Venuses can often come off like they don’t care about their partners too much, or that their partners aren’t as important to them as other things in life, and this is partially true for Aquarius Venuses. Friendships are if not more, just as important as relationships to an Aquarius Venus, so they need a partner that will be okay with that. Aquarius Venus people want to be seen as unique, open-minded, and go with the flow. They have a tendency to be a little rebellious at times and don’t often like following or listening to rules in any way shape or form. They view the world like no other, and they want this part of them to be recognized by their partner. Intellect is extremely important to these placements, they want their voices and ideas to be heard. The dynamic Sagittarius or Gemini Venus would bode well with an Aquarius Venus; They can bond over being adventurous and community-based people. Libra Venus would also pair well with an Aqua Venus if they kept up constant and clear communication. Scorpio Venus on the other hand, may be a difficult pairing for Aqua Venus and they might have a tendency to clash in a negative way.

Last but not least, our dreamy Venus in Pisces people. These placements truly have their heads stuck in the clouds of love. They yearn for a textbook romance. Pisces Venus people want to be coddled and cared for, maybe even babied. They have this evasive yet magical aura to them that draws people in. They are charming, playful and curious people who want their partner to know how much they love them. Their love can feel unlimited which can either be extremely overwhelming or beautifully reinvigorating. All a Pisces Venus wants is to protect and protected. Venus in Pisces people can be really frustrating to deal with however because they do have a tendency to have a savior complex. They love the underdog, and they have an almost incessant need to pick lovers that need fixing. Truthfully they can be very chaotic and all over the place because of all of the thoughts and ideas they have-- there can be an issue with lack of direction. When they’re straying towards martyrdom, they need someone to steer them back on track. A logical Capricorn or Virgo Venus may be helpful in putting the elusive Pisces back where they need to go. The fellow water Venuses-- Cancer and Scorpio Venus-- would pair well with a Pisces Venus as well as long as both remain aware of their tendencies to overly indulge in their emotions.
